Something new

Boring days at work do this to me. I'm just in the mood to write about nothing. So, if you want to read some boring stuff, keep reading. If not, feel free to mosey on. I won't be offended. So, first bit of news, I'm starting school on March 30! I'm way excited! I know normally I really hate school but I'm pretty excited about it. I guess in a few months when I'm ready for a break I'll have to go back to this post and read about how excited I was. Oh, I didn't say what I was doing... I'm going to be a medical assistant. Eventually I'll be a radiology technician (someone who takes x-rays, performs CT scans, MRIs and ultrasounds) but starting with medical assisting is a good thing to do first because the waiting list to get into the rad tech program is kinda long. So I'll start that in March, then be done in January, which is perfect timing because a certain missionary I know comes home right after that. I'm big enough to admit that going to school then is not a good idea. I will fail. I can assure you. So I'll be working, which I think is perfect. Don't you? It's been really nice to have these last few months off though, I won't lie. I think I might miss it a little bit. But I'm excited to start another chapter and finally get done with stupid school!! I'll keep you updated on all that.

It's official... We're official!!!

Okay, I know this doesn't come as a surprise to most of you, but Ian and I are officially official. I know that's kind of weird to say since he still won't be home for a little while, but that's okay. For those of you who don't know, and just because I love telling it, I'm gonna tell you about us.

Ian and I met for the first time at a dance our junior year (we both knew who the other was before then but we hadn't been officially introduced until then), but we didn't really become good friends until our senior year. It was one of those "overnight" things where we went from hardly knowing each other to texting all day, hanging out as much as we could, etc. I attribute that to his outgoing personality and ability to make me feel comfortable in any situation. We continued to be great friends through the rest of high school, through the summer and we would see each other once or twice a month while I lived in St. George. We had tons of fun going out to eat, talking all night and, of course our favorite, SNOWBOARDING! During that time though, we were never more than friends. He was so fun to be around, funny, smart, handsome and all that great stuff, but I never really saw us being more than just really great friends.

He left on his mission in February of 2008. I wrote a couple letters a week and he did the same, and it was all just a "friend" thing until he got dear johned in June. After that, our letters started to take on a bit of a different tone. It was subtle at first, but intensified as time went on. I was convinced there was no way he felt the same way about me, and the hints he would drop in his letters to me were just him being nice. He thought it was just being on the rebound.

Things continued this way until the end of 2008. We both were liking each other more and more, but neither of us really said anything to each other about it. I was spending time here getting to know his family, sending him more Reese's Peanut butter cups (among other things) than any one person should consume in their entire life, and writing... a lot. He was kicking butt as a missionary in Cordoba, baptizing right and left, while still making time to write to me every once in awhile. Most people insisted we were together and it was hard for me to deny once they saw the shade of red my face would turn when anyone mentioned his name, but we never did more than drop hints about it.

After new year's, things really started to take off. I found myself telling him things that I never really planned on telling him at all, let alone while he was still on his mission. The part that completely surprised me though, was that I didn't care. Better yet, he was doing the same thing. We talked about the future, and our plans, and it became very clear to both of us that we had no intention of being without the other.

So, now we find ourselves here, where I've finally weaseled it out of him. We've made a habit out of asking each other questions whenever we talk, and so I asked him what we were. His reply was, of course, about how he was a homosapien and hoped that the same was true of me.... Funny, but hardly the answer I was looking for, and he knew it too. So I kept going:

"Seriously, what do you think of us as?" I asked him. He replied by informing me that he'd been meaning to ask me something, and was going to wait, but would ask me now if I wanted him to. Oh, and you'd better believe I wanted him to.

"Well, I was going to ask you, if I could have the honor in being your boyfriend," he told me, as my heart literally threatened to beat right out of me! And as you can tell by the story, as well as our relationship statuses on facebook (you know it's official when it's on facebook!) I said yes.

So you might read this and say, "BFD, he's not going to be home for a year, she'll probably be married in that time." First of all, if you're thinking that, don't say it to me. I'll punch you in the face. Secondly, I know this is not what you'd call typical but I don't care, because I am SO happy! Really, I didn't even know it was possible to be this happy. Ian is everything I've ever wanted in a guy. He's smart, he makes me laugh, we share the same interests, he is constantly encouraging me and giving me reason to believe in myself, and any of you that know him would agree, he's just an amazing person in every way. So this might be an interesting year for me, but it's worth it. I've found true happiness, and I'm not letting go.

5. What's the last movie you saw? I'm pretty sure it was Valkyrie. I don't frequent the movies super often.

6. Who was the last person you called? Pretty sure it was work to see what they wanted to drink at Cafe Rio. I know, exciting huh?

7. Who was the last person to call you? um.... That's a great question...

8. What was the last text message you received? "Chau babe."

9. Who was the last person to leave you a voicemail? My Mom or my dad. I can't remember which.

10. Do you prefer to call or text? It depends. If it's something quick, I prefer texting. But long conversations are much better when you can hear their voice at least.

11. What were you doing at 12am last night? falling asleep

12. Are your parents married/separated/divorced? They're married.

13. When is the last time you saw your mom? This morning at family prayer

14. What color are your eyes? Hazel

15. Do you own slippers? Way too many!

16. What are you wearing right now? dress slacks and a sweater. Gotta love work clothes! It'll be so great when I get to wear scrubs to work.

17. What is your favorite christmas song? I'm anti-Christmas music. I'm way sick of all of it. Ask me again in June.

18. Where is your favorite place to be? Right now it's the park down the street from my house. It's my thinking spot.

19. Where is your least favorite place to be? Stuck in traffic. BOOOOO!!!

20. What is one of your pet peeves? People that ask me the same question over and over. I feel like a broken record.

21. Where do you think you'll be in 10 years? 30! ewwww!!!

22. Do you tan or burn? Burn... it's kinda lame...

23. What did you fear was going to get you at night as a child? I don't know if any of you remember but on Power Rangers there were these guys that they would have to beat up and they were all in silver. I used to be afraid that they came out in the dark.

24. What was the last thing that really made you laugh? Nerts games on Sunday nights. There's always something...

25. How many TVs do you have in your house? Way too many!

26. When did u last get in an argument? I'm not sure...

27. Do you have a laptop or desktop computer? I have a lap top

28. Do you sleep with or without clothes on? depends on my mood...

29. What color are your walls? Yellow.

30. How many pillows do you sleep with? Usually four. I rearrange them multiple times throughout the night.

31. What is your favorite season? Winter for snowboarding! Yay!

32. What do you like about fall? The leaves changing colors. Especially in the mountains. It's so pretty!

34. What do you like about the summer? Walks at night and looking at the stars!

35. What do you like about spring? The fact that it starts to get warm again.

39. Are you a social person? Yeah. If I don't know you, I'm pretty quiet at first but then I get to know you and you only wish I was quiet!

41. Have you tried escargo? Nope. I thought about it when we went on the cruise but then Casey said it feels like a big gob of snot in your mouth and I couldn't stomach it.

42. What is your favorite ice cream? Chocolate Banana with brownies!

43. What is your favorite dessert? probably brownies... or chocolate chip cookies.

44. Have you drank a Shirley Temple? Yeah, on a booze cruise in San Fransisco. We weren't old enough for the booze, so we had Shirley Temples. They were really good!

45. What kind of jelly do you like on your PB & J sandwich? My absolute favorite is homemade strawberry, but I usually eat raspberry.

46. Do you like Chinese food? Way more than I should!

47. Do you like coffee? I love the smell! I've never tasted it though. But I bet if I wasn't mormon I'd drink it every day.

48. How many glasses of water, a day, do you drink on average? Not enough. Usually about 3-4 glasses

49. What do you drink in the morning? Juice or chocolate milk.

50. Do you sleep on a certain side of the bed? Usually the left side. But I switch sometimes.

Happy Valentine's Day

Emphasis on Valentine's. Usually I celebrate Single Awareness Day on February 14 but Ian made it really a great day this year. I was getting ready for work when I heard a knock on the door. I let my brother answer it since he was right by the front door. He came downstairs and said that someone was at the door for me, which confused me because that rarely happens. I went upstairs to find a girl holding a vase full of yellow roses (my favorite). I had a hunch as to who sent them, which was confirmed by the fact that it was addressed to "Cori Jane" (he's the only one that calls me that) and of course, as soon as I read the note, it was obvious. I was seriously freaking out! I didn't even know what to do! I was shaking like crazy but at the same time I was so happy and couldn't quit smiling. It made my whole day! Thanks Ian for making it so amazing! You're the best!

I read about this on one of my friends' blogs today and I thought it was really cool. It's a blog about Stephanie Nielson and her husband Christian, who were in a near-fatal plane crash last August. "Mr. Nielson", as she endearingly refers to him, suffered burns on 30% of his body and a broken back and Stephanie received severe burns on 80% of her body. She writes from time to time about her recovery process. I admire the faith of this woman and her husband. She has such a positive outlook on life and a real appreciation for "the little things" in life that we take for granted every day. I would only hope that I would do the same if I were in her position. Check it out. You may just get completely addicted like I did!

It's taken me way too long to write about this but I had a girl's night out with Melissa and Brianne on Tuesday. I seriously wish we hadn't waited so long to go out! Hopefully the three of us will take it as a lesson to not let our lives get to busy for each other. As soon as we sat down, I just looked at the people sitting at the tables next to us and was like, "Oh, poor people," because I knew we would be so crazy and laugh incredibly loud, which of course we did. We talked about everything. Our hopes, our dreams, and our plans for the future. It just made me realize how much I really love those girls and was, I felt like, the beginning of a new relationship for the three of us. I mean, we've been friends for years, but we're all kind of at different crossroads in life right now and it was good to realize that we have each other's support in whatever lies ahead.
